When built in 2005, Nesciobrug was the longest cycle and pedestrian bridge in the Netherlands, spanning the Rijn Kanaal in the IJburg district of Amsterdam. The result of a close collaboration between architects and engineers, the bridge provides a vital connection for residents of IJburg, a suburb built on reclaimed land north of the city, with the 'mainland'.
