We designed a gallery dedicated to exhibit the works by the artist Shuku San Po, who had spent his late years in the town of Sakai-machi in Ibaraki Prefecture.We took advantage the flagpole lot by extending the gallery deep into the site, but it is segmented in a way to harmonize with the townscape and the houses surrounding them. As a result, the assemblage of those small spaces is resonating well with the warm, humane, and even sometimes humorous touch of Shuku San Po.
