FORUM UZH
FORUM UZH is a new education and research center in Zurich’s city center, located opposite the historic main university building designed by architect Karl Moser in 1914. The project creates space for almost 6,000 people to study, research, and work, providing open student workstations, spaces for research, a large learning center and library, cafes and restaurants, and sports facilities. A standalone, floating volume set back from the street – the solitaire – is primarily used for research, while the teaching areas are located within the terraced plinth below. The forum, a tall, open space for student interaction and a variety of events, extends from the solitaire into a sunken outdoor garden at the heart of the plinth, thus connecting the two building volumes while creating a dynamic hub for the entire campus. The 2018 competition brief formulated the vision of a university campus open to the city to ensure a lively exchange between science and society.
