New Trelleborg
Trelleborg is the best preserved castle of Harald Blåtand and one of the Nordic region's most important historical monuments. Trelleborg represents a common past and a piece of valuable Danish history. It has therefore been essential to create a proposal that is true to the cultural heritage, while at the same time giving the story some new forward-looking architectural frameworks in which the universe of the Viking Age unfolds. The landscape and the relationship with nature was a central aspect of the Viking culture. In the Viking life, a deep understanding of the laws of nature and the landscape's logic was fundamental, and it has also been a decisive factor in relation to the location of Trelleborg. Similarly, the landscape and surroundings are the focal point of our proposal, aimed at improving the experience of the surroundings and Trelleborg as an integral part of a larger system. Our proposal for Ny Trelleborg consists of three elements: a contemporary building with its own architectural quality, a contemporary exhibition space that activates and attracts the audience as well as a landscape that gently ties it all together.
