The Nishi-Nippon City Bank's headquarters reconstruction project is 3XN's first architecture project in Japan. It is strategically located adjacent to the main entry to Fukuoka's main train station, Hakata Eki. This prominent project serves as a new landmark, framing the axis of Hakata Avenue and seamlessly integrating a significant entry point to the train station, creating a new welcoming plaza for the city. Situated at the heart of the Central Business District, the new development's design is in harmony with the larger urban scale while cultivating a more human scale due to its massing articulation and ground-level plaza. The nuanced massing aligns with the 'Hakata Connected' design guide, the city's latest master plan, to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment with street-level activation and civic spaces. This is achieved with adjustments of the massing envelope and façade articulations.
