Molde has just 25,000 inhabitants but every July the biggest stars of jazz and about 100,000 jazz enthusiasts flock to the city’s renowned international jazz festival. Plassen Cultural Centre is designed to be flexible and robust enough to provide facilities for this major event. Almost all surfaces and spaces of the building are multi-functional, such as its roof and staircase, which together constitute three outdoor amphitheatres and can accommodate several thousand spectators; but work just as well for everyday activities.
